What a difference! The television is now at a much more functional viewing level. The new cabinetry is clean, sleak and less cluttered looking. The room looks more spacious and even the ceiling looks higher. I think that often we see a photo like this and discount that we can have a space like this in our own 'average' homes. But if you look at the before photo, you can see that it started as a very basic room.

I love the difference that the painting the cabinets made. A lot of times homeowners are hesitant to paint over wood. They feel like it will diminish the value of the cabinetry. Staining the floors the darker color and replacing the countertop and backsplash made the appliances look even better.

This dining room is a perfect example of how you can transform a room from plain to spectucular. Notice that they left the original window treatments and just added side panels. The existing "sideboard" was painted and the chandelier replaced to go better with the new round table. The wall paper on the one wall is a simple but dramatic change.
The changes they made here was a simple paint job and new cushion upholstery. You can get a table similar to this from Ikea and the Eames chair here.
Often a client will resist putting built-in cabinetry in a small room thinking it will close off the room and make it feel even smaller. This is a great example of how removing a lot of smaller furniture and adding a larger cabinet made the room feel larger because it is less cluttered.
What I particularly like about this remodel is that the house "before" looked very much like the average houses in my area. It shows that you don't have to have a particularly large or even an architecturally interesting home to make it look like a home that belongs on the pages of a magazine. Are you inspired?

My favorites are the dining room and the banquette! Lovely transformation. I've seen some of her spaces before, but not this one so thanks for sharing it!
Have a great weekend, Sherri...
Hello Sweetie!
I'm so happy you're back to my blog! But I totally understand how busy we can get with our blogs, life, etc.
I'm more to "traditional w/ a twist" kind of a girl, but I love to see these pictures! What a chance!
Btw, since I was missing the sunshine I've posted about a Beach House.. I'm dreaming of being in a warm place! Is it cold there too?

The pictures took my breath away. I love that wallpaper in the first one, and I'm thinking it's the same house in the dining room makeover with the wallpaper accent wall. Killer. Love it. I'm so glad you have a blog :)
