Slowing down time

"They say time is money, but that's not true. Time is life. And if I want the fullest life, I need to find fullest time." - Ann Voskamp

I have never felt as busy as I am right now, this place I am in my life. And for someone like me, who is task oriented and loves to be finished, it can be detrimental to my well-being.

In perfect timing, I came across a book that is breathing wonderful truth into my soul. It is Ann Voskamp's, One Thousand Gifts; A Dare to LIVE FULLY Right Where You Are. Ah, just the title alone, perfect. For me right now.

In the chapter I am reading right now, slowly... a few pages each morning, Ann talks about the beauty of being thankful. Thankful for the little things. She starts by making a list. A gift list. Not gifts that she wants but gifts that she already has. God gifts. She wants to list 1000 things.

They are little things. Things we often don't even see. Or are too busy to notice. Things like morning shadows across the old floors, or the moonlight on pillows.

And what she discovers as she starts writing her list is that she begins to see. And to be thankful.
"A soap bubble, skin of light and water and space supended in sphere. Who has time for that?
Hadn't I? Only because I was looking. Because that list of one thousand gifts has me always on the hunt for one more . . . and one more - to behold one more moment pregnant with wonder.
     362. Suds...all color in the sun
     That's my answer to time."

"Wherever you are, be all there." -Elisabeth Elliot
"Time is a relentless river. It rages on, a respecter of no one. And this, this is the only way to slow time: When I fully enter time's swift current, enter into the current moment with the weight of all my attention, I slow the torrent with the weight of me all here. I can slow the torrent by being all here. I only live the full life when I live fully in the moment. And when I'm always looking for the next glimpse of glory, I slow and enter. And time slows. Weight down this moment in time with attention full, and the whole of time's river slows, slows, slows." - Ann Voskamp, One Thousand Gifts, page 68
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." - James 1:17

An amazing post today! It gave me chills with the way moments can have so much meaning if we can give ourselves the time to take them in. I give all the praise to God for blessing me with the ability to see them for what they are.
Enjoy your day!
