The power of white

{via}

I am at the finishing stages of several large renovations I have been working on all summer. All of them have a few things still undone - rugs to be delivered, artwork to be placed and chandeliers hung - little things but just enough to keep me from being able to close the books on the projects, so to speak ... or to take photographs to show you. I am "dying" to show you what I have been working on. I am also trying to get everything completed so that I can take some time off towards the end of September and the beginning of October because my daughter is going to have her first child and our first grandchild!

I have also just started a few short-term smaller projects that are keeping me very busy - a nursery (no, not my daughter's), a bathroom remodel, and a living room re-design project. All of these things (work and family and basically life in general) require me to stay focused on what needs to get done everyday, be organized and somehow be able to be inspired. It is not always easy. Getting enough sleep helps. And for me, a clean and uncluttered space is crucial.

I think it is almost like the cleansing of your palate before tasting a new wine, this need I have to be able to clear my mind from all that is inside in order to create. And white does that for me. It calms me; it gives my mind rest.

  1. So many beautiful spaces and thank you for using an image of ours!! I understand the tying up of loose ends as our first grandchild is due Sept. 23 - such an exciting time!! Can't wait to see photos of all that you have been working on - especially that nursery!!

  2. Sherry,

    I totally agree... White spaces just leave the mind a little less cluttered. I see rooms with a lot of color and they are so beautiful and happy, but at the end of the day, it's all my white walls that calms me... that and a few lit candles and a big glass of wine.
